Helping One Student To Succeed (HOSTS), a mentoring program designed to increase reading achievement, is offered to many of the school's first graders and some second graders. Business leaders, civic leaders, and other volunteers spend time each week with the same students in order to develop a rapport, tutor and enrich student's reading, and assist in promoting a child's positive self- esteem.
